About 400 comfortable schools to be built in Kazakhstan in next few years

The implementation of the National Project "Comfortable School" was considered at the Government session, chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov.

Minister of Education Askhat Aimagambetov said that the National Project was developed on the instruction of the Head of State to modernize school infrastructure. Large-scale construction of new-format schools for 842,000 students is envisaged within the framework of the project.

Thus, comfortable schools will be fully equipped with the necessary educational equipment, a variety of subject rooms, video surveillance and public address systems, individual lockers for children, etc.

Such schools will be built to a common standard in both rural and urban areas. They will also provide facilities for children with special educational needs.

In addition, according to the Minister, work will continue on teacher training and professional development for the new schools. It is expected that in total about 100 thousand specialists will be trained by 2026.

The Prime Minister stressed that the submitted national project aims to eliminate the shortage of pupils' places, emergency and three-shift schools. At the same time new educational institutions will be equipped with all subject classrooms, computer labs, laboratories and workshops according to the same standards.

"Separate blocks are envisaged for junior and senior classes, with their own canteens and gyms. Schools will have individual lockers for storing textbooks and personal belongings. In this way, we will relieve the backpacks of schoolchildren," Alikhan Smailov said.

In addition, new comfort in the new schools will be created by desk-transformers, drinking fountains and communication areas on each floor, according to him.

The Prime Minister said that 401 comfortable schools are to be built in 2023-2025. A total of 2.6 trillion tenge has been allocated from the national budget for the project.

"Its implementation will enable it to create necessary conditions for children to receive quality education in comfortable conditions. Regional Akims should ensure allocation of land plots and think over the issues of engineering communications till the end of this year," Alikhan Smailov said.

In conclusion, he instructed the Ministry of Education, together with the relevant government agencies and akimats, to ensure timely implementation of the planned activities.
